Thursday - After a fantastic night’s sleep – in bed at 9 pm up at 9 am, J went to check on the weather forecast and get some bread. The fishing fleet had just arrived and they were selling their fish on the quayside – fascinating! Oh to be able to catch fish this size!
Went over to sit outside the SNM sailing clubhouse to pick up their wi-fi signal and downloaded the weather, sorted my emails out and uploaded the blog. Received my first ever email from my Mum, I hope that she can look at this!
On my return, the harbourmaster came for his fees, a mere 38 euros – he also asked the captain of the mega-yacht how he was going to pay his bill for 5000 euros! – cash of course!
We had to wait for our neighbours to leave, a lovely couple who had just bought a new boat and are in the process of sailing it to Corfu – in 10 days! They had a Yachmaster instructor joining them for the trip so I gave him a look at the forecast I had downloaded – 45 knots of wind starting Friday lunchtime!
We decided to find somewhere to hole up for the winds to subside and headed for Bandol, one of our favourite ports from our trip last year.
We had a lovely sail through the islands and arrived only to find that our neighbours had chosen to do exactly the same and had just arrived.
The staff were brilliant and we were berthed by 5.30 pm.
Friday – Breakfast on the aft deck followed by a lovely morning shopping in the market, stocked up on local produce followed by a cafe au lait in the beautiful square.
Had a walk along the harbour front admiring all of the beautiful yachts – found a Bricolage and bought a small paint brush for the stainless steel cleaning. J spent the afternoon cleaning the hand rails and the stainless – Ma Belle looks as good as new!
A small yacht arrived in the afternoon and after some chat, the couple on board invited us to join them for dinner at their house in the town.
Frederic and Helene picked us up at 7 pm and took us to their lovely house which has a pool and beautiful views over the sea. They own a Pharmacy in Toulon and have three lovely children – Remi, Nicolas and Mano. We had a lovely meal of Duck and pasta, cooked on the BBQ followed by some wonderful smelly French cheese which Helen tried!
A great evening – checked the forecast using Frederic’s internet, not looking good until Monday morning with gales force 7 and 8 for Saturday and Sunday! Oh well, more boat cleaning!
