After a very busy first half of term, we flew back to Dubrovnik for our first real taste of this amazing city! We hired a car which was great because the weather really wasn’t good enough for us to do any sailing.
We spent a lovely evening in Dubrovnik, walking the streets, just getting a real feel to the place. You can park your car right next to the walls.
We spent another day visiting Ston, a beautiful walled town along the coast. There is a wall over the mountain between two villages Ston and Mali Ston, which is currently under repair.
There are a lot of oyster and mussel beds in the Ston Canal and we bought some fantastic fruit and veg from one of the stalls. Lemons straight off the tree – amazing!
We managed to park in the centre of Ston and made our way up the hillside to investigate the wall. J nearly got ravaged by a snake in the bushes, but the effort was well worth it for the brilliant views.

We found a lovely restaurant overlooking a bay for a sandwich lunch.
We spent another great day driving along the coast towards Split. After a stunning drive across a flood plain covered in Satsuma and fig groves, we stopped at Ploce, a large ugly sea port. Had a swift coffee and moved on!
Just after leaving Ploce we came across this amazing inland lake!
Had lunch at a restaurant in the beautiful seaside town of Makarska.

We bought a painting from this fine gentleman for the saloon.

We then found a wonderful bar at the foot of the walls to have a beer just as the sun was setting. We met up with an Australian family who have moved to London and were on holiday for half term.
Went to the beautiful seaside town of Cavtat on a very windy day.
Helen’s birthday wasn’t a brilliant success, we planned to have a nice meal out in Dubrovnik but it rained all day so she never left the boat , J however was sent to get tea! Nice candle!
We had a great holiday and now look forward to the next part of our great adventure!
Some more misc. pics!
