We arrived in Aigina late afternoon and were lucky to get a mooring on the town quay, as this is a very popular place for Athenians who like to get away from the city smog for the weekend. Aigina is a fascinating place with a feel very much like Marseille, without the intimidation. Ferries and Hydrofoils come and go all day and everyone seems to be going to or coming from somewhere.
Aigina’s main produce is pistachio nuts so we had to buy a bag – a real treat!
We went for a walk out of the main town and came across a small boatyard on the beach building these beautiful small boats. Grandpa would have loved it!
There is a large fleet of fishing boats in the harbour and they sell their wares in this traditional market. They also sell their fruit and veg from boats in the harbour and so we stocked up before leaving.
Strong winds were forecast in the Aegean, so we decided to head South for a few days and go to the Island of Poros….
