Unfortunately the wind was very unpredictable on our passage to Poros but Justin certainly got lots of exercise getting the sails up and down every ten minutes! We were unable to get the forecast in Aegina so had to rely on the VHF broadcast on channel 25, but as you can see reception wasn’t very good and Justin had to hold the radio up high above his head to get a signal.
Poros is a beautiful place and the entrance is very impressive.
We managed to find a good mooring stern to on the town quay and Justin managed to rig up an even more complex contraption for lifting and lowering the gangplank!
One of the main reasons for coming here was the fact that there was a laundrette!
The channel between the island of Poros and the mainland is very narrow and although there is a speed limit, the water taxis seem to have a law unto themselves so it was a little rocky at times. However, we had a great time watching the to-ings and fro-ings and exploring the small town.
We left Poros early morning with every intention of heading across to Lavrion, 10 miles South of Athens but unfortunately the sea and wind were against us again so we made for the the island of Hydra instead….
