Having thoroughly done Lanzarote, it was time to move on to the next island of Fuertoventura. First stop was an anchorage on the east coast called Porto Negro. It was a tiny village with not much there except a bar, and we managed to keep Justin and Chris out of that! We were joined later on by Innamorata , and had a relatively peaceful night at anchor.
Next day we had a short trip down to Gran Tarajal where we thought we could anchor inside the breakwater, but a new marina had been built there, so we had to anchor outside. Justin and Chris went ashore and came back full of praise for the little town – very Spanish, and Innamorata checked out the marina and found out that it was so cheap it really wasn’t worth the rocky sleepless nights on anchor so we went in and escaped from the building winds.

Justin was fed up with managing his unruly locks, and being tight fisted, wouldn’t pay for a hairdresser, so Irene and Chris got out the clippers!
Quite debonair – don’t you think!?!
Whilst in Gran Tarajal, there was a sport fishing competition, and there was great excitement when these two Marlin were brought in. A crane was hired to lift them out of the water and hang them up for weighing. One weighed 190kg and the other 201kg; they were very impressive, but it was quite sad to see them strung up – they don’t even make very good eating apparently.
It was great to spend a few days in one place and chill out for a bit. Helen celebrated her birthday with a Jamie Oliver cooked breakfast a la Chris and pressies and cards. After a lazy day friends Steve and Carol from Innamorata, and Leut and Moline from Rafiki came round for drinks, nibbles and birthday cake.
Another great singing card from Jon and Beth!
Helen was persuaded to tell the infamous ‘giant clam joke’!

Next day was off to Masso Jable on the southern coast of Fueurtoventura for an overnight stop before heading off to the next island of Gran Canaria. Again, we intended to anchor out but when we arrived the marina was so cheap we decided to stay there. Kiri off the yacht Irene was there, and it was good to have a catch up with him as we last saw him whilst watching the rugby in Gibraltar.
