After a quiet sail, we duly arrived at the brand new Marina in Kas, We were the very first boats ever to visit, and were welcomed by the marina manager and his staff with flowers and gifts. When arriving at a port we are requested to call Dave, the rally organiser, on channel 69 when we are half a mile away. We are then given a number, e.g. Green 3, and are called in order to moor. A very efficient system which is very necessary given that 55 yachts need to be moored within a short period of time.
After a short rest and a very cold shower, we joined some of our new friends for a walk into the lovely town of Kas where we managed to find a bar serving ‘Happy Hour’ drinks and then ate at one of the recommended local restaurants – a great evening.
The following day we were up early to catch the bus for another tour. First stop was the ancient ruins of Xanthos and then we went to the Siklikent Canyon where we had our lunch at a restaurant literally on the river. Brilliant! In the afternoon we made our way to the ancient city of Patara, although it was closed for restoration, so we spent some time on the 18 km beach. Final stop was the beautiful seaside town of Kalkan.
After another refreshingly cold shower, we joined the rest of the crews and the local dignitaries for the official opening cocktail party. This has to have been the best yet, limitless free booze, a full BBQ meal and a live band playing for us at the yacht club. A great party!
