EMYR 2011 - Kemur

Kemur

After another swelly motor sail up to Kemur, we were safely berthed by the enthusiastic marina staff. After a quick freshen up we joined the rest of the crews for a welcome cocktail party. Although it was still very overcast, the weather forecast was for an improvement with clear skies for the following day. We therefore decided to take the tour on offer – a morning’s trip up Mount Olympus by cable car (2365 m). They managed to get all of our party onto one cable car and we just about made it to the top in time before the clouds rolled in. It was very cold at the top with snow still lying on the ground in places.

That evening, at the Green Team Skipper’s meeting Justin was presented with a special award by Verner, the Team leader. He was officially promoted to become his deputy, the ‘Admiral of the rear’ and given the admiral’s cap to wear at the evening’s BBQ. Very fetching!

The BBQ was a great success, although we did get into trouble for going up for our food out of turn. We were invited up by the waiter but not by Kath, one of the rally organisers. I think we will be last in the queue from now on! We were also fortunate to be sitting inside because it did start to rain – although it didn’t seem to put off the hardened sailors who will do anything for a free meal! The organising committee made a special presentation to one of the founding members of the EMYR and we had a special birthday song for one of the skippers which had been prepared by all of the members of his group. There really is a real sense of camaraderie amongst the crews – great fun.

The following day was a free day for us to rest up and do our own thing – a good job because we needed to leave very early the next morning (3.30 am!) for our passage across the bay to Alanya.
