After a very sedate motor across the Gulf of Corinth on glasslike seas with dolphins, we arrived in Kiato, a bustling town on the South side of the Gulf, 10 miles from Corinth. We secured another good mooring alongside the harbour wall. We had just moored up and the weather turned again ; the winds started blowing hard down the Gulf.
Luckily the boat was pointing pretty much into the winds so was very secure, although we needed every fender to make sure no damage was done to the hull. The winds built and the seas outside the harbour walls built so they were crashing over, soaking many cars and boats. Luckily we had followed the advice in our pilot book and sheltered under the largest wall!
We managed to leave the boat for a few hours and went for a wander around the town. The following morning the winds had died and so we decided to go for the canal and try to get through before the winds got up in the afternoon. We had met up with a couple from Austia on their boat ‘Dreamtime’ who were also going through the canal and heading for Athens, and decided to travel with them through the canal and hopefully get some good photos of each other’s boat.
